ONE-DAY BLOG HOP

Wednesday, 2 December 2015/9 a.m.-10 p.m. PST

This event will require you to write one blog post on your own blog that will give new visitors information about your book. The goal is to be informational - promotional, even - without being overtly salesly.

You may want to include details like:

  • How you came up with the idea for their book(s)
  • Where and when you write
  • Character back stories
  • Case studies that illustrate points from your book(s)
  • How to use your book(s)
  • Who would benefit from reading your book(s)
  • A surprise detail you've never shared before

If you are unfamiliar with a blog hop, read this post:

You will make your blog post available by adding your link to the linky below.

Click here to enter your link and view this Linky Tools list...

The public will be entered into the day's drawing for books, gift cards, etc. by commenting on the authors' blog posts.

VIDEOS R US

Saturday, 5 December 2015/9 a.m.-10 p.m. PST

Show off your book trailer or video and share it with the participating public!

If you don't have a video yet, this is the time to make one. It doesn't have to be long or be polished. Short - one-and-a-half minutes to three minutes - is plenty long!

7 THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  1. Take care with your background. Don't make it too busy.
  2. Be sure you use an external mic. You can use your iPhone to create your video, but invest $20 in an external mic from your local electronics store.
  3. Be sure you have enough lighting. Dark shadows kill otherwise great videos, so shine some light in your eyes to make sure you're well illuminated.
  4. Write a script, so you won't be winging it.
  5. Get your cover in the video!
  6. Rehearse a few times before you actually record the video.
  7. Pay for editing help if you need to.

Post the video on YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, your website, or anywhere else and send us the link. We'll grab a screen shot and add a link so that the public can visit your personal site to make their comments. Every comment made to your personal video site will receive 3 entries in the day's drawings; comments posted to this website will receive only 1 entry in the day's drawings.

3 AUTHOR TWEETCHATS

Sunday, 6 December 2015/9-10 a.m. AND 1-2 p.m. AND 7-8 p.m. PST

Join us for any or all of 3 TweetChats to meet the participating public. We'll award prizes on the quarter-hour with a big gift card drawing at the end. We'll also track the participants so that you can follow them and thank them for participating.

Please use the hashtag #HolidayAuthors to log into TweetChat.com 10 minutes prior to the start of our Author TweetChat.

Because Twitter is fast-paced, we recommend you have some canned responses to the more common questions ready to go, perhaps in a Word document. Think about the obvious and not-so-obvious questions, like:

  • How did you come up with the idea for your book?
  • How long did it take you to write your book?
  • What was your biggest challenge?
  • Which part of publishing your book did you enjoy most?
  • What is your favorite place to write?
  • Are you working another book right now? What is it about?

Please use this link to sign up for the Tweetchat(s) you will be able to attend:

INFOGRAPHIC MANIA

Monday, 7 December 2015/9 a.m.-10 p.m. PST

This is your chance to demonstrate your creative side by posting your book infographic(s) on this site. Actually, you send us the image, and we post it for you. The participating public will be entered into the day's drawings by repinning your infographic(s) to their Pinterest boards.

No matter what your book is about, you can and should have at least one infographic representation of it! Canva.com and Piktochart.com are two of the easier free programs to use. This link has an overview of 10 programs.

If you want an infographic but feel it's beyond your scope, we can create one for you for just $99. Email HAEInfographic@gmail.com and we'll get started right away!

Here's a sample of an infographic we created for Laura Orsini's book, Stan Finds Himself on the Other Side of the World:

INSTAGRAM WORD JUMBLE

Wednesday, 9 December 2015/9 a.m.-10 p.m. PST

This event will give public participants the chance to prove their wordsmithing prowess! Today we're using Instagram to share some cover images. We will highlight one letter from the book of each participating author. (See example below.) The participants must unscramble the letters to reveal a phrase.

                                                                  This is just an EXAMPLE.

                                                                  This is just an EXAMPLE.

The puzzle phrase "solution" we're looking for: HOLIDAY AUTHOR EVENT

in the event we have enough authors, we will create multiple word puzzles and participants will receive 2 entries to the day's drawings for every correct solution.

Please use the form below to attach an actual photograph of your book - not just the cover image. If your book is an ebook, we'll accept a picture of your cover displayed on an ereader.
